Aurora oil lamps – how to use them, and how to get the most out of the light

Few things create such a cozy atmosphere as living flames behind glass. With Aurora oil lamps from Hadeland Glassverk, you get both function and design in one – craftsmanship, tradition, and ambiance gathered in a beautiful expression.

The Northern Lights as Inspiration

The Aurora series is named after the Northern Lights, and just like the light in the sky, the lamps create a calm and magical expression. They are made from mouth-blown glass and are available in several colours – green, amber, clear, teal, and smoke grey.

The series consists of several designs – a sleek disc shape, a round optical variant, and a flower-inspired lamp with an optical effect. Different shapes, yet equally beautiful – and designed to be combined for a personalized look.

All models are designed by Maud Gjeruldsen Bugge.

How to use your oil lamp – step by step

1. Find a stable surface
Place the lamp on a firm and stable surface, preferably in the sink or on the counter next to it.
2. Use the correct oil
Feel free to use a funnel when filling, but leave a little air between the funnel and the glass. If it's sealed, the oil won't flow down. Fill only half the container with traditional lamp oil – this is important for safe and even burning. Avoid Tenderfuel, which is specially developed for other products and wicks.
3. Insert the wick
Thread the wick through the burner so that it extends 2–3 mm above the edge. Use your finger or a small object to adjust the height – but only when the burner is cold. The wick may feel a bit stiff the first time, but it softens after use. You can also trim it shorter if needed.
4. Light and enjoy the candle
Use a lighter or a match, and let the flame find its form. The burning time is approximately 20–25 hours, and the wick lasts for many years – almost "forever," if you treat it well and use the correct lamp oil.

Easy maintenance

Our burners are CE approved, and each lamp is made for safe and easy use – just make sure the lamp is always stable when burning.

Clean the oil lamp by gently wiping it with a soft cloth – avoid strong cleaning agents.

Craftsmanship and tradition

Each lamp is handcrafted, and every product reflects tradition, quality, and a love for glass. Designed by Maud Gjeruldsen Bugge, the Aurora series combines classic Norwegian design with modern elegance – an enduring expression of light and tranquility.
