Custom Design and Standard Range in Interaction
When the high-rise building at Dronning Eufemias gate 16 in Bjørvika was completely renovated, the ambition was to create a modern office building where architecture, materials, and lighting would be experienced as a single whole. For Hadeland Glassverk, the project was an opportunity to show how specially developed solutions and products from the standard range can work together in a complete lighting concept.
Project lighting that enhances the architecture of DEG16
The assignment came from SML Lighting, who were responsible for the lighting design in the project. Through close collaboration with the project's consultants and architects, the lighting was developed in parallel with the interior – a working method that allows greater freedom to let the light become an integrated part of the architecture, rather than an element added when the building approaches completion.
From craftsmanship to finished project
With its own production of hand-blown glass, Hadeland Glassverk can develop solutions tailored to individual projects, while products from the standard range can be integrated where they provide the greatest value. This flexibility offers the project team more options, reduces unnecessary special production, and contributes to a robust, high-quality delivery.
DEG16 demonstrates how the combination of craftsmanship, custom design, and established products can create lighting solutions that both meet functional needs and give the building a distinct identity. For developers, architects, and lighting designers, the best solution rarely involves choosing either standard or custom design – but rather using both where they make the biggest difference.
