Join the family at Hadeland Glassverk - Almost too much to do!

Just an hour's drive away, the family found the perfect destination for a whole day packed with glassblowing, creative workshops, good food, and outdoor activities.

First - Art Splash!

The 17-year-old has no doubt about what she wants to try in Hadeland Glassverk's new creative workshop, Art Splash. Both she and her sister on the other side of the table have chosen a mix of pink and white beads, with gold details.

"My favorite color is actually yellow, and purple comes in second," says Hedda about her color choice. She has done as her sister, but added purple beads as well.

Ada and Hedda are not on the trip alone. At the neighboring table sit their brother Aksel and father Trygve. The boys sit with their ceramic figures in front of them, as concentrated as the girls. On the way down the stairs to the workshop, as he catches sight of all the activities, the father exclaims:

"There's almost too much to choose from here!"

This year's novelty!

Art Splash is Hadeland Glassverk’s big summer novelty. In the workshop, both children and adults can let their creativity blossom by painting on ceramics, canvas, and silk scarves. You can make your own jewellery, decorate candles, create glass mosaics, and much more. Here, creativity, joy of creation, and community are in focus. As a bonus, the result will be a completely unique work of art that you can take home.

Let your creativity flow!

Aksel and Trygve each start with a pencil. Behind the counter, Art Splash employee Nina asks if the boys would like to look at figures for inspiration. They are unsure, but then she gives them a tip that makes the choice easy. The Norwegian national football team jersey has become a favourite among many guests to paint.

With a twinkle in his eye, Trygve says that he thinks he and his son are about equally bad at painting. He gets a cautious but confirming nod from his son. They will give it a try anyway. Trygve takes out his mobile phone. Not to kill time or as a substitute for a paintbrush, but to check what the Norwegian jersey actually looks like. Then he and Aksel start with their respective pencils to draw the lines of the Norwegian flag.

“What number will you have on the back then?”

From behind the counter, employee Nina follows their work with excitement. Now Aksel and Trygve face yet another choice. Aksel's favourite player is actually Martin Ødegaard, but the question is: Will eight letters be too long?

The choice is therefore between Nusa with jersey number 20 and Bobb with number 22. Aksel goes for the latter. Dad, on the other hand, draws a number nine, like so many others. To make it a bit easier for himself, he omits "Braut" and starts directly with "Haaland".

The ceramic figures take shape. Although they were initially unsure about their own painting skills, blue and white stripes and red squares are now visible. Trygve and Aksel agree – and reveal:

“This will be this year's Christmas present for the grandparents.”

Pink, pink, pink

Ada and Hedda are back at the bead table. They are almost finished. Meanwhile, Nina pays them a visit. She is curious about the results and is impressed by the girls' creativity. For the final touches, Nina takes them to the shop counter. With a helping hand, she fastens the bracelets. Now the girls' bracelets are adorned with the colours purple and gold – but most of all, pink.

Now you're going to be a glassblower!

The family moves from Art Splash to the glass studio. They are ready for a real craft experience: blowing their own glass. In the glass studio, the heat and smell are unique. Among large machines, experienced glassblowers move about, handling red-hot glass with the utmost ease. Here, guests can blow their own glass with the glassblowers every day and take home a truly unique souvenir.

The children get to choose between different colors. Hedda is up first and has no doubt. It will be pink here too.

The glowing glass mass expands and takes shape. Ada goes for her sister's favorite color yellow, while Aksel chooses blue. The two oldest children master the blowing effortlessly. Then the professional glassblower takes care of the rest. In an hour and a half, the glasses will be cooled down and ready.

Even though it took her two attempts before the blowing was right, Hedda is certain:

– This was a lot of fun!

Both girls have visited Hadeland Glassverk before. The last time was before Christmas last year, but they have never tried to blow their own glass. Now they agree that it's tempting to do again. On the way out, something else is tempting. Their stomachs are rumbling. They are ready for food.

– Tasted great

The family considers Bakeriet, but is tempted by Vaffelhuset. Stepping inside, everyone becomes curious about the bubble waffle. What is it, they ask? And what does a "summer box" contain? After being told that it contains ice cream, fruit, and berries, both children and adults are pleased. – I like that there’s something healthy in it too, says dad Trygve.

A New Favorite

Hedda only partially agrees. She is, in any case, overjoyed by the bubble waffle. She has never tried such a waffle before. The airy waffle also pleases Ada. She thinks it's so good that she's going to recommend bubble waffles for the menu at the cafe where she works part-time alongside school. And what's Aksel's verdict?

He admits that the waffle was heavy. After all, it hasn't been that many hours since breakfast. Nevertheless, Aksel is clear:

– It tasted great.

17 May memories

Now the family wants to get out and about. They make their way to "Barnas Bondegård" (Children's Farm). Hedda spots Vildring, a 7-year-old Fjord horse, and is immediately curious. She's on horseback in no time. At first, she's a little hesitant, but after a few seconds, a smile appears. Soon, the 10-year-old is practically spinning around. Meanwhile, Ada and Aksel have found a pair of stilts. For a moment, Trygve is unsure if he needs to explain to the children how to use them, but then memories of May 17th celebrations in the schoolyard awaken in both the 14- and 17-year-olds. Yet, it's actually the eldest in the family who handles the stilts best. It almost looks like Trygve (46) has done nothing else.

Several bathing opportunities

During the roughly hour-long drive from home to Jevnaker, the family has talked about more than just Hadeland Glassverk. The car is packed with swimwear, and they plan to end the day at Randsfjord Water Park.

The family also gets a taste of Randsfjorden in Verkevika, a few meters from the glassworks.

– We didn't know there was such a nice swimming spot here, the family says in unison.

The water temperature is measured at 19.5 degrees on this hot summer day. It's half a degree too cold for them to dip their toes in the water. Before heading to the bouncy castle and water slides, Hedda has spotted a place she just has to visit: The Pancake House.

There, Ada also spots something she recognizes from many videos on social media: Biscoff biscuits. Hedda is fascinated by a chicken pancake. Just like the bubble waffle, this is new. The sisters agree to share.

In addition, the father of the family is surprised by the large selection of shops. During the day, the family visited both Høvdinghallen and Honninghuset. “We have simply experienced an incredible amount. This definitely makes us want to come back,” he says. The pancakes are gone. There are only crumbs left. To end the day, they pick up the pre-cooled glasses from the glass hut. As soon as the food has settled, the family is ready for the water park. First one in!
