MASTERPIECES IN GRAPHIC ART
Magne Furuholmen
Magne Furuholmen is active in a number of cultural arenas, with broad international experience through his work as a musician and visual artist. Through more than 40 years in the band a-ha, Furuholmen has contributed to Norway's largest footprint in the international music industry.
He debuted as a visual artist in 1989 and has since maintained a high pace with works exhibited at the National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Mac-Niteroi Brazil, the Royal Academy in London, and the Central Academy for Fine Arts in Beijing, to name a few.
As a visual artist, Furuholmen works across various media and techniques, but has particularly distinguished himself as a printmaker and sculptor. In 2016, Furuholmen was awarded his largest commission to date: Imprints, a sculpture park with 70 tons of ceramic sculptures officially opened in the Aker quarter at Fornebu.
Furuholmen was awarded the prize for 'Best Graphic Work' at the Høstutstillingen (Autumn Exhibition) as early as 1996. His works have been acquired by the Norwegian Arts Council and are represented in numerous public and private institutions, including the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the Kupferstichkabinett Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
Furuholmen holds an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the University of Agder, and active cultural board memberships include H.M. Queen Sonja's international graphics foundation, the Queen Sonja Print Award. He has been chairman of Norske Grafikere (Norwegian Printmakers), and in 2012 he was awarded the Order of St. Olav, Knight 1st Class.
