Homemade ice cream recipe

Recipe by: August and Martin
Freezing time: At least 4 hours, preferably overnight

Ingredients

  • 500 ml double cream
  • 1 tin sweetened condensed milk
  • 1–2 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 bag of Smash chocolate snacks

How to make Smash ice cream

  1. Place the cold double cream, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla essence in a mixing bowl. Whisk until the mixture becomes thick and creamy. Be careful not to overwhip, as the mixture may split.
  2. Crush the Smash into smaller pieces. Gently fold most of it into the ice cream mixture, saving some for the topping.
  3. Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe Norgesglasset glass dish. Gently tap the dish against the worktop to remove any air pockets.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining Smash over the top.
  5. Place the dish in the freezer for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. Remove the ice cream from the freezer and allow it to soften slightly if needed before serving.

Make it your own

This easy ice cream recipe also works as a base for other flavours. Simply swap the Smash for your favourite treats, such as chopped chocolate or crushed biscuits.

If you don't have vanilla essence, you can use a little vanilla sugar instead. Adjust to taste, as the sweetened condensed milk already adds plenty of sweetness.

Homemade ice cream straight from the freezer

With Norgesglasset ovenproof glass dishes with lids, you can prepare, freeze and store your homemade ice cream in the same dish. The clear glass also makes it lovely to bring straight to the table when it's time for dessert.

Prepare the ice cream the day before you're expecting guests. Once the mixture is ready, put on the lid and leave the dish in the freezer until you're ready to serve. A practical way to have a homemade dessert ready whenever you need it.
