How to sterilize Norgesglass before pickling

To ensure that pickled vegetables last a long time and retain both flavor and quality, Norgesglass jars must be completely clean before use. Thorough sterilization of jars, lids, and rubber rings is essential to prevent bacterial growth and ensure long shelf life.

How to do it

  • Start by thoroughly washing jars, lids, and rubber seals in hot soapy water.
  • Next, boil them in a large pot of water for at least 10 minutes to kill bacteria and microorganisms.
  • Also boil the utensils you’ll be using – everything should be completely clean and boiled before you start filling the jars.

Keep your fingers off the glass ...

When the glasses are done boiling, use clean utensils or tongs to lift them out of the water.

Avoid touching the inside of the glasses, the rim, or the rubber seals with your fingers—even small amounts of bacteria can significantly reduce the shelf life of preserves.

Why choose Norgesglass with a rubber gasket?

Norgesglass with rubber ring is especially well-suited for canning. When you sterilize properly and seal the jars while they are still hot, a tight vacuum is created. This ensures long shelf life and safe storage of vegetables, jams, and other homemade goods in jars.

Tips for long shelf life

  • Always use the freshest ingredients.
  • Check that the rubber seal is intact and the lid is completely airtight.
  • Store the jars in a cool, dark place.
