YOUTH ARENA

Elin Rødseth

Born 1984 – based in Oslo. Elin Rødseth was educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, China Art Academy in Hangzhou, and Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. She primarily works with printmaking, especially woodcuts and monotypes, often combining the two techniques in her works. Her subjects explore how people move in public spaces before retreating to physical or mental back rooms. "It happens rhythmically, like insects moving in and out of anthills and hives," Rødseth says. The interplay between the public and private creates an underlying rhythm and mood in her work. Her artistry is characterized by anonymous, faceless figures in stylized and often minimalist settings. The figures appear across different works, creating a scenic, almost theatrical expression. Rødseth describes them as fleeting – passersby you barely have time to notice. For her, printmaking functions as a medium that creates both physical and mental distance from the subjects. "What emerges on paper is a hardened, distanced, and mirrored version of the original – almost like an encounter with a passerby," she says. Elin Rødseth's works have received wide recognition and are represented in collections such as the Library of Congress in the USA, The Royal Collections in Norway, the National Gallery, and the National Library.
