Ingrid Hopland Gimse

Born in 1997 and based in Oslo, Ingrid Hopland Gimse is a Norwegian textile artist completing her master’s degree in medium- and material-based art at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in spring 2025. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the same institution in 2023. Through her work in plant-dyed silk and weaving, she explores how knowledge of botany and traditional crafts can be gathered, preserved, and shared—with Norwegian flora as a recurring theme. In a world where time is often measured by efficiency and quick results, Hopland consciously chooses a different path. Growing and foraging plants for use in dyeing and printing is an important part of her daily life, and time-consuming techniques such as weaving, plant dyeing, and embroidery are central to her practice. By following nature’s rhythm—waiting for seeds to sprout and letting the process take the time it needs—she seeks to reclaim a slower sense of time and a more present way of living.
