KOGL
KOGL is a Norwegian design studio founded by Christian Sandbye and Jonas Oppedal, both graduates of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
The name “KOGL” comes from the old Norwegian verb kogle, meaning to practice magic and illusion—reflecting the duo’s ambition to create surprising and innovative design. The studio combines sustainable production with experimental use of materials, constantly seeking new ways to challenge established forms and techniques.
One example is the chair ¼, developed as a response to economic challenges. It is made of plywood and recycled wood—without any screws—reducing its carbon footprint. KOGL has also explored the use of lichen and wool in furniture design, drawing inspiration from Norwegian nature and folklore.
The studio has a strong focus on local production and locally sourced materials, and works to make sustainable products accessible to a wide audience.
