Martin Whatson
Born 1984 – based in Oslo
Martin Whatson is a Norwegian street artist known for his distinctive combination of grayscale stencils and vibrant, abstract elements. With a background in the graffiti and street art scene of the 1990s, he has developed a signature style that balances the raw and urban with the lively and expressive.
In his works, he uses detailed black-and-white stencils alongside spontaneous bursts of color. His motifs explore contrasts such as stillness and movement, control and chaos. He often comments on identity and societal change, without being overtly didactic.
Whatson has held solo exhibitions in cities including Oslo, Paris, Tokyo, and Santa Monica, and has participated in international street art festivals like NuArt in Stavanger. His works can be found in both galleries and public spaces, and he is considered one of Norway's most prominent contemporary street artists.
