Stian Borgen
Born 1984 – based in Fredrikstad.
Stian Borgen is a visual artist with a studio at Hydrogenfabrikken in Fredrikstad. With a background in graffiti art and neo-expressionism, he has developed an expressive style marked by fragmentation and intense use of color. The head as a form is a recurring motif, which he dissolves and reorganizes until it almost loses its recognizability.
His working method is physical and intuitive, inspired by artists like Basquiat, Pollock, and Hambleton. He throws, drags, and scrapes paint across the canvas in an almost choreographed movement, where the raw meets the controlled.
Dyslexia has shaped his relationship with visual communication, and he strives to create art that is both immediate and complex. The wear and urban textures of city spaces are an important source of inspiration, and his paintings bear the marks of both energy and traces.
Borgen has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Soli Brug, Galleri Fenka, and Østfold Kunstsenter, and in 2023 was highlighted by Subjekt as one of Norway’s most interesting contemporary artists.
