Hurdal Town Hall

When Hurdal municipality wanted lighting and decoration for the new town hall lobby, it was natural to take inspiration from the symbol in the municipal coat of arms – the pine cone. Chief designer Maud Gjeruldsen Bugge at Hadeland Glassverk designed a monumental chandelier consisting of 600 massive crystal pine cones, mounted in ten rings of rusted and clear-lacquered iron. The pine cones are mouth-cast in five different sizes, and the light comes from LED strips shining into the top of each crystal form. The light is reflected in the faceted surfaces, creating a glowing and almost magical effect – an expression that is both atmospheric and sculptural. In addition to the lighting installation, Maud, who is also an artist, contributed a large painting and a specially designed art disc. The frames in the artwork draw on the materials and expression of the chandelier, and the overall result provides space for both intimate concerts and ceremonies – in a hall that combines function and feeling.
