An icon in Norwegian culture and everyday life.

Norgesglasset – a Norwegian original since 1902

Norgesglasset is more than a canning jar; it's an icon in Norwegian culture and daily life.
Since its launch in 1902 at Hadeland Glassverk, it has been the symbol of community, tradition, and homemade culinary delight.

When the Norgesglass changed Norwegian kitchens

When glass jars became available, they revolutionized Norwegian kitchens. For the first time, families could preserve summer berries and vegetables and enjoy the taste of sun-ripened food all year round. The sound of the lid clicking into place, the sight of jars filled with ruby-red strawberry jam – it all became part of the Norwegian national soul.

A piece of industrial history in glass

Over the years, Norgesglasset was produced at Hadeland, Høvik, and Drammen Glassworks.

The earliest jars had a greenish tint, but from 1929, they acquired the clear tone we associate with quality.

With its characteristic 'Norge' logo, the jar quickly became common property, and the name eventually became synonymous with all preserving jars.

From everyday item to nostalgic favorite

In total, more than 75 million Norgesglass were produced before production ceased in 1978. When ready-made jam and freezers took over, sales dropped dramatically.

Even though the jars disappeared from store shelves, they never disappeared from Norwegian homes or from memories.

A modern classic with roots in tradition

In 2014, Norgesglasset was relaunched at Hadeland Glassverk. Today, it stands both as a tribute to Norwegian craftsmanship tradition and as a modern brand.

The product range includes everything from classic preserving jars to drinking glasses, serving dishes, and interior products – all made to be used, reused, and shared.

A sustainable design icon for generations

Norgesglasset is a product created for generations. It carries with it the history of Norwegian food culture, but at the same time looks forward, as a
sustainable, timeless, and functional design icon.
