The Norwegian Parliament

Hadeland Glassverk has, for generations, provided lighting for some of Norway’s most historic and public buildings—and the Parliament is no exception. In the 1960s, the lamp model now known as the Storting Lamp 4246 was designed by Jonas Hidle, and it still hangs in the Parliament’s corridors and foyer to this day. The lamp, with its distinctive double dome in white and smoky gray glass, has become part of the visual backdrop of Norwegian politics—you’ve probably seen it in the background when politicians are interviewed on TV. The updated model, Archive 4245, inspired by the Storting Lamp, is still in production at Hadeland Glassverk. The iconic double dome is produced using traditional techniques and is a clear example of how classic Norwegian design continues to shape important public spaces.
