MASTERPIECES OF GRAPHIC ART

Cathrine Knudsen

Cathrine Knudsen (1974) has for more than 20 years created art that reflects nature's stillness and slow narratives in delicate colors and organically stylized forms. It is the continuous process of decay and renewal in nature that inspires Knudsen. It is poetry, fragility, and silence. That which wears down and builds up at the same time. Layer upon layer of nature's own stories. In 2015, Cathrine had a successful solo exhibition at Hadeland Glassverk with paintings and graphics and collaborated with the Glassblowing Studio at HG on a unique series of art vases based on her own forms from her paintings. In recent years, mountain silhouettes have once again been created with great inspiration from several trips to Svalbard. It is vulnerable nature, the fragile, that which is changing, that Knudsen also shows in the silhouettes with references to the Norwegian mountains. The various organic forms, the delicate simplicity, and the calm in the images give an almost poetic reference to nature's fragility. Throughout her artistic career, Cathrine has also been curious to learn new techniques and works with many different graphic forms, with a focus on monotypes in recent years. Now at Hadeland Glassverk, only monotypes are displayed. Monotype means a unique print. Monoprint, monotype, or monoprint is a graphic work, but only one of each. The image is built up directly in a large printing press, with rollers and forms in many layers, and this is printed on paper. Each image becomes unique - the plate in the machine is cleaned of ink and a new process with a new unique monotype can begin. Knudsen works with monotypes at Trafo Kunstproduksjon in Asker.
