MASTERPIECES IN PRINTS
Marianne Heske
Marianne Heske is one of Norway's most significant and internationally acclaimed contemporary artists, and is considered a pioneer in conceptual art. Since the 1960s, she has played a central role in the development of Norwegian and Nordic contemporary art, with a practice that spans media such as installation, sculpture, photography, video, and digital expressions.
Heske's art is characterized by an investigative and innovative approach, where she challenges established notions of the art object, the institution, and storytelling. Through her work, she explores the relationship between nature and culture, the local and the global, and how memories, places, and materiality can be transformed and given new meanings.
She was educated at art academies in Bergen, Paris, London, and Maastricht, and has had extensive international exhibition activity since the 1970s. Heske has participated in major biennials and been represented at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Venice Biennale, and a number of museums and collections in Europe, the USA, and Asia.
Her works have been acquired by institutions including the National Museum, the Astrup Fearnley Museum, and Henie Onstad Art Centre. Throughout a long and influential career, Heske has developed an artistic practice that remains relevant, challenging, and innovative.
