MASTERPIECES IN GRAPHIC ART
Sverre Bjertnæs
Sverre Bjertnæs (b. 1976) was educated at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo and ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands. He received early guidance from sculptor Tore Bjørn Skjølsvik, and has since developed an artistic language that combines classical training with experimental and conceptual approaches. He draws inspiration from art history, popular culture, and interpersonal relationships.
As one of Norway's most renowned contemporary artists, Bjertnæs has become known for his distinct figurative expression and an innovative approach to printmaking. His works explore themes such as identity, memory, and human relationships, often with a poetic and autobiographical depth. His early figurative portraits, inspired by photorealism and artists like Vilhelm Hammershøi, have evolved into a unique expression that balances classical figuration with conceptual experimentation.
Bjertnæs has held solo exhibitions at several central art institutions, including Haugar Art Museum, Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, and the Stenersen Museum. His works are included in important private and public collections, including the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Kistefos, The Collier Collection, the City of Oslo Art Collection, and Trondheim Art Museum.
