Hjemmelaget tyttebærsyltetøy med appelsin

The fresh, tart flavour of lingonberries is a true taste of autumn. A hint of orange gives this classic lingonberry jam a fresh, rounded flavour that works just as well at breakfast and with waffles as it does alongside savoury dishes.

When lingonberries are at their best, making your own jam is an easy way to preserve the flavours of the season.

Lingonberry jam recipe

The recipe makes approximately two 0.4 L Norgesglass jars.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh lingonberries
  • 500 g sugar
  • Finely grated zest of 1 orange
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 0.5 dl water

How to make lingonberry jam

  1. Rinse the lingonberries thoroughly and place them in a saucepan with the water.
  2. Bring to the boil and simmer for 8–10 minutes, until the berries begin to burst.
  3. Stir in the sugar, finely grated orange zest and orange juice.
  4. Continue to simmer for 5–10 minutes, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the jam has reached your preferred consistency.
  5. Skim off any foam if necessary.
  6. Pour the hot jam into clean, sterilised Norgesglass jars and close the lids immediately.

What to serve with lingonberry jam

Lingonberry jam is a classic accompaniment to meat dishes and traditional Norwegian food, but it is also delicious with waffles, pancakes, yoghurt and breakfast dishes. The orange gives this version a fresh twist without overpowering the characteristic flavour of the lingonberries.

Preserve the flavours of autumn

Filling Norgesglass jars with homemade jam is a simple way to make the most of seasonal ingredients. When the jar is empty, wash it, reuse it and fill it again – with another batch of jam or something completely different.
